What is Whole Food?

So what is whole food anyway?  Below are some guidelines to help define food and get you started.

Real Food = Food in it's original state, unaltered or changed by humans out of it's form as found in nature.
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, wheat berries)
  • Fish
  • Poultry (chicken, turkey)
  • Beef
  • Dairy Milk
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Sweets (honey, dates, fruits)
Food Products = Real food that has been altered in any way, shape or form from it's original state as found in nature. As in, "Look Mom, I see an orange tree!" growing along side of the road.  Have you been to a bread farm? Seen a fruit chew tree? Gone cookie picking? Hmmm, me either.

Real Food is....
  • made with little or no refined sweeteners like corn syrup or white sugar
  • made with ingredients you recognize
  • more of a product of nature rather than a product of industry
  • 100% whole grain rather than parts
  • organic and humanely raised
Real Food is NOT....
  • low fat, low carb, sugar free
  • made with artificial sweeteners
  • deep fried in refined oil
  • made with refined grains like white flour, potato starch, rice starch
  • highly processed food with "natural" or "organic" label
  • made with ingredients you do not recognize
  • made with dozens of chemicals, preservatives, or food dyes
